Iselin

Metropark Train Station, Iselin, Woodbridge, NJIselin is one of the nine areas that make up Woodbridge Township. The town is a commuter's dream, home to the Metropark train station and just a few minutes drive to the Garden State Parkway, New Jersey Turnpike, and Routes 1, 9, and 287. Trains from Metropark, the busiest station in the state outside of the terminals in Newark and Hoboken, take just over a half hour to reach Penn Station in New York.

Shopping is also convenient. Woodbridge Center Mall is only a 5-minute drive away, and Menlo Park Mall is 10 minutes away. The downtown business district centered at Oak Tree Road and Green Street has become a thriving retail mecca where patrons flock to dine on authentic Indian food and to shop in the many Indian groceries, jewelry stores and sari shops.

Young families are attracted to Iselin because of its supply of affordable starter homes.Tidy ranches and Cape Cods stand side by side on small lots. The typical subdivision house is a ranch with three bedrooms and no garage on a narrow lot. There is a smattering of Cape Cod-style houses, and many homes in the area surrounding the business district are bungalows built in the 1920's and 30's.

Many people who grew up in Iselin during the 50's and 60's have remained there to raise their own children, creating a real neighborhood atmosphere. Despite the fact that many families in Iselin have both parents working outside the home, the town retains its strong tradition of volunteerism and community service.

Iselin has three elementary schools, one middle school and one high school in the Woodbridge Township School District. All but one of the schools -- the Robert Mascenik Elementary School -- are magnet schools for children from elsewhere in the Woodbridge Township School District who require English as a Second Language service.
